SAFETY TIPS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE USING THE INTERNET

Young people should never use the Internet without adult supervision!

NEVER EVER give out your real name over the computer or during any kind of chat or registration that is not necessary for financial or legal reasons without consulting an adult parent or adult guardian.
ALWAYS use a fictitious name (not your real name) or fictitious address (not your real address) unless absolutely necessary, and if so, ALWAYS check with a parent or adult guardian. Use a Screen Name (technical name for the a computer screen name) or nickname that you choose to call yourself while on line, like: spot, kitten, help911, foxandhound, 1984, bobthemob, klinklink, etc.
NEVER EVER give anyone your phone number or address over the Internet no matter how convincing or how hard they try to get you too, unless your parent or adult guardian comes to the screen with you and gives you permission to do so.
ALWAYS think about why the person is asking you questions, they might be trying to trick you into telling them something you don't want them to know. For Example: If you were asked what position you play on a ball team, then later, asked for the name of the team you play on, and even what state your in, or maybe what the ball park is near, the person on the other end could deduce where you will be at a certain time and find you, especially if you had told them which position you had played. There are ACTUAL LOGGED CASES where young people have been tricked into giving out information they hadn't planned on giving out. So, ALWAYS be thinking about WHY someone is asking the question(s) their asking, they may be trying to learn something about you to find you.
The Internet can be loads of fun and a wonderful world of discovery, but is best when supervised by an adult guardian or parent!
